Our Story
A Family Business, Built in Mid-Missouri
It started in 1984, when the Drewing family brought the BMW franchise to Columbia. From there the group grew one brand at a time, always family-owned and always local.
In 2021, Rusty Drewing put his name on the door in Jefferson City, adding Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac on Christy Drive. Today this store is part of a seven-brand group across Jefferson City and Columbia.
As Rusty puts it: “Having your name on the sign means you care about everything that happens inside.”
Milestones
- 1984BMW Comes to ColumbiaThe Drewing family acquires the BMW franchise and moves it to Columbia. It is where the group begins, and BMW of Columbia is still its longest-held franchise.
- 2015Keeping the Columbia BrandsThe family sells the Joe Machens group and keeps BMW of Columbia and Mercedes-Benz of Columbia, the two brands that define its Columbia presence today.
- 2021Rusty Puts His Name on the DoorRusty acquires the Chevrolet Buick GMC Cadillac and Toyota dealerships on Christy Drive in Jefferson City and puts his name on both. Seven brands. Two cities. One group.
- 2025Eunice Kennedy Shriver AwardSpecial Olympics Missouri presents Rusty with the Eunice Kennedy Shriver Award for raising more than $150,000 for SOMO athletes.
- 2026Missouri TIME Dealer of the YearRusty is named Missouri’s TIME Dealer of the Year, one of 47 dealers honored nationwide by TIME and NADA for community leadership and customer integrity.
